Using hypnosis to effectively control chronic pain.
Have you ever had a headache while busy only to realize hours later that you had forgotten that you had a headache?
Often times people with chronic pain anticipate the upcoming bout with pain. They spend hours, days, their entire lifetime agonizing over how they will feel in the future. Many become depressed and quite frankly, pain has been allowed to control their lives.
By using hypnosis in order to control pain, careful consideration must be taken in order to fully assess the correct order in which the client needs help with overcoming.
I am finding that there is a simple technique that I have learned and can teach in a matter of minutes. Building on that technique, many wonderful things can happen. Application of an additional technique allows the person to become very loose, relaxed, and finds that once the tension is released, so much of the anticipated pain continues to go along with it.
I recently traveled to Austin Texas to learn the methods of HypnoBirthing. I found myself learning wonderful coping skills that can be taught on a broader basis. HypnoBirthing is moulded after Dr.Grantly Dick-Read's method of having a natural child birth. His theory, "Fear + Tension + Pain" (Failure to Progress), is relevant in the resolution of chronic pain as well. In my opinion, any relief that can be used effectively to aid the laboring mother, is proof enough to believe that it can be used for chronic pain.
I am finding in my practice that this is true.
